The Bhandara Police Department maintains law and order through a structured network of four divisions: Bhandara, Pauni, Sakoli, and Tumsar, overseeing 17 police stations for effective governance and public safety.
The Bhandara Division has six stations in Bhandara, Jawaharnagar, Kardha, Kardi, Mohadi, and Warthi. Pauni covers the southern district with stations in Adyal, Dighori, Lakhandur, and Pauni. Sakoli manages the eastern region with Lakhani, Palandur, and Sakoli stations. Tumsar oversees the north with stations in Andhalgaon, Gobarwahi, Sihora, and Tumsar.
In rural areas, officers are commonly addressed as "saheb," "Mama," or "Kaka."
Community Perception of Safety
In Bhandara, the general perception of safety remains positive, with residents expressing satisfaction with the police force’s efforts in maintaining law and order. Public-police relations are reported to be cooperative and friendly, contributing to a relatively peaceful environment. People feel secure in their daily activities, and instances of major law and order disturbances are rare.
However, past events such as the Khairlanji massacre continue to cast a shadow over the district’s social fabric. The 2006 atrocity, in which a Dalit family was brutally murdered, left a lasting impact on the community, raising concerns about caste-based violence and systemic discrimination. While the district police have taken steps to ensure justice and improve security, the lingering effects of such incidents highlight the ongoing challenges in ensuring safety for all sections of society.
