Livestock
According to locals, in Gadchiroli, livestock plays a crucial role in the local economy, though its usage differs from conventional agricultural practices. Rather than being used primarily for cultivation, cattle and other animals serve as assets for domestic consumption, financial transactions, dowry, and religious ceremonies.
Locals say that goat rearing is widespread across indigenous communities, with pigs and chickens also being commonly kept. These animals are primarily raised for meat and are slaughtered on special occasions such as weddings and festivals.
Among the Madia community, locals mention that cows are not milked, as they believe it deprives calves of nutrition and weakens them. In contrast, communities living in the plains near Bhamragad use bullocks and buffaloes for plowing and transportation, while beef consumption is also part of their dietary practices.

Chickens are transported either on bicycles or in traditional benda, which provides shelter for the birds during transit.
