Latur's industrial growth began in the 1960s with the establishment of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), enabling industrial estates and land acquisition. By the 1980s, it emerged as a major sugar-producing hub, earning the title "Sugar Belt of India." The 1993 earthquake led to improved infrastructure and urban planning. In the late 1990s and 2000s, the city diversified into food processing, IT, and biotechnology. Today, Latur continues to attract investments from multinational corporations, strengthening its position as an emerging industrial center.

Agriculture and Food Processing
The region is a part of Maharashtra’s "Sugar Belt," housing over eleven sugar factories that support sugarcane cultivation and related industries. Latur is also a significant hub for edible oil production, with several oil mills processing mustard and groundnut oil. Additionally, the district is known for producing high-quality grapes, supported by state-backed cold storage facilities and a grape wine park near Ausa, boosting its viticulture potential.
Textile
Latur's textile sector specializes in readymade garments, hosiery, and knitted textiles, leveraging locally produced cotton for yarn manufacturing. The industry is supported by small and medium enterprises producing socks, sweaters, and soft toys.
Leather
Latur's leather industry produces a variety of goods, including footwear, purses, and bags, benefiting from an abundant raw material supply and skilled labor.
