Livestock
Nagpur has a well-developed livestock sector, supported by educational institutions, private enterprises, and modern farming practices. The Nagpur Veterinary College plays a key role in livestock education and research, offering facilities such as experimental farms, hatcheries, and feed storage units. The college supports both academic programs and research initiatives aimed at improving livestock management and productivity.
Private farms, including Mane Livestock Farming Pvt Ltd, contribute to maintaining hygienic conditions and ensuring healthy livestock rearing practices. The region’s livestock farms commonly use specialized housing systems such as deep litter and cage management techniques to optimize space, improve biosecurity, and enhance animal welfare.

Pastoralist Communities in the District
The Nanda Gaolis and Bharwads are prominent pastoralist communities in the Nagpur district. The Nanda Gaolis are classified as a semi-pastoralist group. Both communities primarily focus on cattle rearing, with the Bharwads known for raising Gir cows, which are highly regarded for their milk production.
Additionally, nomadic pastoralists like the Jogranas travel annually from Gujarat to Nagpur in search of fodder for their livestock. However, these groups face significant challenges due to diminishing grazing lands and increasing hostility from residents, which complicates their traditional practices and livelihoods.
Veterinary Care
Some of the veterinary hospitals and clinics in the district include:
- Nagpur Veterinary Hospital, Ambazari Road
- District Veterinary Polyclinic, Sitabuldi
- Government Veterinary Hospital, Civil Lines
- Royal Pet Clinic, Gondwana Square, Byramji Town
- Dr. Marwah's Small Animal Clinic, Shivaji Nagar
- Animal Health Care Center, Central Avenue Road
- Precise Pet Clinic & Accessories, Pratap Nagar
- Dr. Sunny Magar's Bird and Animal Hospital, Hingna Road
Important Livestock Markets
